Obituary of Benjamin Houston Smith

Benjamin "Ben" Houston Smith, a much loved and cherished brother and uncle, led a life filled with adventure and accomplishment. Born on January 12, 1962, in Conway, Arkansas, he was the beloved son of James Grey and Mary Westbrooks Smith. Ben grew up all over the south, experiencing life in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, and North Carolina.

A proud graduate of Auburn University, Ben worked his way through college doing construction work and earned his degree in electrical engineering. Upon graduation, he settled in Warner Robins, Georgia and embarked on a distinguished career with the United States Department of Defense, where he made significant contributions as an electrical engineer, specializing in radar systems, and working at Robins Air Force Base.

Ben loved to travel and he explored the world, gathering amazing stories from his time spent in France, Germany, the Netherlands, South Korea, and countless other destinations. A lover of good food and sports, he was known for having two TVs running simultaneously to catch every game. While he had a passion for travel, Ben also cherished his home in middle Georgia. He had good friends and a family who loved him dearly. With a victory so near, Ben's extraordinary life on this earth came to a close April 24, 2023, as he lost his battle with cancer.

Ben is preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Smith, and his half-brother, Aron Smith. He leaves behind a loving and devoted family who will forever treasure his memory, including brothers:  Michael Smith, Randy Smith, and Kenneth (Emily) Smith, and sisters: Kathy (Jeff) Owens and Patty (Robert) Smith Derham. He is also survived by nephews Jon Owens, Matthew Smith, Patrick Smith, and nieces Savannah (Andrew) Stone and Lura (Michael) Morris and their children.

A celebration of life to honor Ben will be held at a later date.
